Prostitution & Pornography

Renaissance Fashion
Fetishism: a form of sexual desire which is linked to a particular object or article of clothing.

Robert Herrick fetishizes the clothing of the addressee in "Upon Julia's Clothes".

Personification: giving a nonhuman or nonliving thing the characteristics or qualities of a human being.

Tomlin's penis becomes a being of its own when Nashe personifies the penis when Tomlin is able to become erect again and have sex with Francis in "The Choice of Valentines" (Page 462-463).

I Modi
Satire: the use of humor, irony, or exaggeration to criticize or mock particular characteristics of society.

In Sonnet or "Position" 10 of I Modi, Aretino uses the curate character to satirize the strict sexual repression of priests.

Pun: making a word work in two different ways, with two separate meanings.

In Ben Jonson's Epigram "On Gut", Jonson uses a pun on the word "meat" to mean both food and nourishment, but also the male genitals.
